Itinerary description
The trailhead commences at Makhnyal, situated approximately 12 kilometers from Monal Restaurant. If you plan to hike one way, it's advisable to use a taxi for convenient access to the trailhead. For a loop hike, you can park your car near a small field at the trailhead. Some people generally call it the second ridge or Makhnyal to Gokina. Wikilok GPS has recommended it as Makhar Nial to Khurd.
The trail follows a jeep track, with a ridge line on the left side and panoramic views of Talhar Village, Khanpur, and the surrounding areas on the right side. While there are various camping spots along the way, it's worth noting that the trail may have some cow dung, and cattle may be present in the area -- making a unsuitable for camping. Notably, there is a specific point where you can enjoy stunning views of both Khanpur and Rawal Dam.
It's important to be cautious at two particular points along the trail, which I have marked as risky. These areas have narrow paths with deceptive steps, so it's recommended to avoid them and stick to the ridge path.
There are two options for navigating the trail: following the jeep track, which is relatively straightforward but involves some elevation gain, or taking the ridge route, which has more undulating terrain and may require more time.
The trail culminates at Gokina Village. To exit the area, you can either walk back to Monal or opt for a taxi from the local market.
