Easy and highly recommended tour of Kawai'i's South Coast.
It's easy to park in the parking lot behind the Hyat hotel complex, on Shipwreck Beach (or I was lucky around 4...).
First you go through the cliffs with dunes of fine white sand covered with a kind of low pine.
Past the cliffs we pass through Waiopili Heiau, a sacred historical site, and then through
a beautiful golf course between palm trees (very nice to walk barefoot).
After the golf course we see a horse ranch on our left, and Mahaulepu beach in the background. Before reaching the beach we make a mini circular route along the Makauwahi Cave Trail.
*** Attention ***
In order to enter the cave, you must arrive before 4:00 p.m. It is only open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Finally, it is recommended to make the return trip between 5 and 6:30 p.m. to see it with the lights of the sunset.
