Itinerary description
This trek is quite hard, not technically, but because it requires lot of stamina and patience.
Total duration was about 11-12 hours, but that included couple of longish halts (guide orienting himself, waiting for team members, nourishment and for some rest. So active walking time of about 9 hours.
Kelad is the base village, located about an hour past Velhe. We started walking at 2:45AM, in dark. Those hours, if later with the sun out, would have been miserable. We descended Madhe Ghat, total about 550m. There is a flat patch halfway down Madhe ghat (Village karnawadi is located some 5km on the left on this same flat). The second half of the descent takes you down, going round ghadhav kada and there you hit a road connecting villages Ranwadi and Waki. There is a milestone showing Mahad 21km away along this road. From Waki there is a steep climb to the top of the ridge, to eponymous Shevate village. Shevatya ghat climbs gradually to the top. Net elevation gain from Waki is about 600m.
Be forewarned, that the end (of this trek) is not near yet. This follows about 3 hours of tiring never-ending walk, when you are really exhausted and badly want to get back to your bus and go home. You walk, walk and walk, up and down and flat, cursing yourself for simply being. And then when you reach Kelad, it feels like heaven. Even better when steaming tea with ample ginger, followed by Shahi pulav is served.
Note: I edited gpx file to add waypoints, but wikiloc has listed them out of order. The map shows proper locations.
