The Galicica National Park is located on Monte Galicica, a mountain that stretches across the border between the Republic of Macedonia and Albania.
The National Park is on the Macedonian side of the mountain, located between the two largest lakes in the republic: Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa.
The park covers an area of 227 km2 between the lakes of Ohrid and Prespa. The floral life in the national park represents more than a thousand species, of which a great part are relics and endemisms that have the final boundary of their extension right on Mount Galichica
The massif has developed relief with large and deep valleys and a vast mountain ridge that in the southern part of Galicica reaches the altitude of more than 2,000 m. The highest peak is the Magaro (2,254 m), where forests, rocky and spectacular landscapes on both slopes await us.
THE ROUTE:
We will leave first through a beautiful forest of beech trees to look for open ground for a comfortable valley of ascent.
We will cross snow-covered meadows, ascend the mountain pass that separates the lakes of Ohrid and Prespa.
The terrain will become more alpine until reaching the summit, the Magaro (2,245), where forests, rocky and spectacular landscapes on both slopes await us.
We will descend walking along the slopes of Prespa Lake through a wild path between hundred-year-old beech trees to our starting point.
