Itinerary description
Macdonald circuit
We went up the north face in hot weather. The track is overgrown in many places leaving us bush bashing.
Spectacular views over the valleys as we neared the top, but it was slow going and very steep with a Little Rock climbing in parts.
Couldn’t find any water flowing in the creeks at the top (mid summer) so we ended up coming back down earlier than planned and not staying overnight up top.
Either carry lots of water to sustain 2 days of hiking or attempt the hike in cooler autumn/spring or winter seasons when there’s a better chance of the high altitude creeks reliably running.
