Itinerary description
Walk through the Black River Gorges National Park up to the Macchabé Viewpoint. Starting at the visitors centre the signposted path first leads through the forest on flat ground and over a little river before it steeply winds up an exposed concret-paved track. After about 2/3 of the way there is a first viewpoint to the right which is well worth the slight detour. Finally, the path enters the forest again. From here, it is a steep ascent on a steplike path until the Macchabé Viewpoint. In fact, steps have been cut into the soil and fixed with wooden piles (when wet this is a slippery endeavour). Bring water and sun screen.
