Itinerary description
Trailhead: From the village of Kilbeheny, take the R639 towards Caher. Take the second turn left as you leave the village (signposted Kings Yard). Go straight on for about 2 kilometers. When faced with a choice at a glamping B&B, go left and park at the end of the road. Parking for 3/4 cars. To begin the walk go downhill, and be alert for a sign on the left marking an Air BnB accommodation. Go left here, over a gate and follow the muddy track down to the bottom of the valley, to emerge onto a track which will take you towards the mountains. Cross the little bridge and emerge onto open mountain. Follow the river as far as possible before veering to the right.
There are superb views of Knockaterriff to your right as you ascend. You will eventually see Galtymore to the east as you approach the wall at the summit of Lyracappul. This might be an opportune location for lunch, as it provides some shelter on a wet or windy day. You are now at the furthest point from the car. Make your way down from Lyracappul before climbing unnamed peak (spot height 629). You will shortly see your car parked far below.
Allow about 5 hours in total for this beautiful walk.
