Itinerary description
Note 1: Erased my loops and wanderings along the route. Should be easier to navigate now.
Note 2: I stopped recording this when I got to Sakiz as my luggage was dropped off at Gey. If you want to go to Bel turn left at the house. Right goes to Gey.
The first 45 minutes down from Alinca can be nerve wrecking. Especially if you’re afraid of heights and in bad weather. The view and surroundings are rewarding though.
Don’t be fooled: the Likya Yolu sign after the Ottoman cistern mentions Sidyma but you’ll never see that on any other sign again. That’s why I got confused at the next sign when I got to the main asphalt road. Up until here everything is well signed.
When I finally got to the sign to Bogazici (the one I was looking for) it took me 30 minutes or more to finally find the trailhead I was looking for. You don’t find it in the immediate direction the sign points to. Don’t pay any attention to the signs on the rocks - try to navigate to where I found it. :-)
Than after that the route to Sidyma becomes more of a treasure hunt as you constantly need to be on the look-out for the next sign. Try to enjoy the turtles you meet on the way! Eventually you get to the old (Lycian?) road that leads upwards.
Up on the hill I had to remove some thorn bushes to stay on the path. I think someone put them there to prevent goats from escaping. :-)
Once I got to Hisar/ Sidyma I was hoping to buy some cookies and a drink but no shop there. The fountain in the village is good for drinking water.
Than from the Sidyma signs it becomes a pain to follow the trail again as signs are old, scarce and hardly any assistance from piles of stons to indicate where the signs are. I was glad when I got to the asphalt road to Bel :-)
