This section of the trek is heavy because of the difference in level. It starts at Lumbe (4370 m) and climbs to the pass of Renjo La (5420 m), one of the three steps of the Everest trek. The distance is almost 12 km, and after the pass it goes down to Gokyo, which is approximately 4800 m.
The road starts very early (before sunrise) to get to the pass early, and that the ice of the road has not reached to melt. The road climbs steadily, and although the sun rises, it takes time to directly illuminate this face of the mountain, so it is cold. In many places there are stairs on the path, and when you get to Renjo La there is a fantastic view.
On the way down to Gokyo the path is less clear, and care must be taken not to lose sight of the landmarks. There are also areas where there may be ice, which causes slippery areas.
