NOTICE: It is understood that anyone who wants to do this same route assumes the responsibility that an activity entails that is not exempt from possible risks or incidents, in an environment in which common sense and circumstances can make the difference between having a good day or the opposite.
After making the pleasant morning walk to Cooper Lake, we have continued the road towards Homer, until after a few miles we see the entrance to the Russian River camp and the trail of the same name. In a booth at the entrance they inform us that the camping area is complete, but that we can park right there, if we want to do the Russian River trail. From the beginning we realize that this route is much more demanded and traveled than the previous one, which we did in the morning. Shortly before completing a mile, we leave the paved track that goes to the campsite and take the path to the left, after passing another small parking lot, that will take us to the viewpoints of the Russian River. It should be noted that as soon as we take the path we find ourselves again, as on the trail to Cooper Lake, the typical information post accompanied by the also typical log book, in which the hikers who either alone or accompanied do these remote places sign up daily. paths. The truth is that this one of the Russian River does not seem to be so remote, since both on the way out and on the way back we have come across a large number of people (mainly Americans and some armed) who were doing the same route as us. This march also heads southwest, and there is no loss if you go a little steep at the only crossroads, at the height of a wooden bridge, which could mislead someone. And it is that, if you take said intersection on the left, crossing the wooden bridge, the trail of the Russian River would be connected with that of the Russian Lake, albeit doing a good number of kilometers if you want to reach the Russian Lake. Most people do what we also do, which is nothing more than going straight ahead at this intersection, a little over four kilometers from the start, to continue the remaining kilometer until you reach the bed of the Russian River, a tributary of the Kenai River, one of the largest and most important in this part of Alaska. Arriving at the Russian we find two wooden viewpoints, like elevated terraces over the river, from which you can see the large number of salmon, which, making an enormous effort, try to go up the rough waters of this mighty river. After enjoying a few minutes of the striking show, which is repeated every year at this time, we decided to retrace our steps to recover the car and thus approach our first destination in Alaska, Homer.

Tuvimos mucha suerte de encontrar al llegar a la pasarela sobre el rio, una osa con tres ositos pescando salmones.
