Itinerary description

This hike traverses the steamers from the junction of the north branch of Emu Ck and Reedy Ck. The start offers an open grassy paddock suitable for camping the night prior to hiking. However, due to recent floods access requires a high clearance 4wd to negotiate the 7 creek crossings which, in the past, was able to be negotiated by 2wd in dry weather. The hike starts 50m back from the camp site, follow a rough vehicle track up to the first creak/gulley and follow a compass bearing of 100' offtrack until under the funnel/mast saddle, crossing approx 6 gullies. This bearing slowly gains elevation and avoids rocky scree under the funnel. The final ascent can be identified by a change in vegetation to an open grassy slope with multiple black boys. In addition, the funnel is visible to the SW to aid navigation. Follow past the mast and any cliff breaks at their base to the north until an obvious route is found to gain access to the stern ridge line. A good foot pad can be followed to one of the best lookouts in SEQ. A faint foot pad can be followed to Mt Steamer where the main range ridge line down to steamer saddle camp offers a good overnight site with accessible water within 100m. This walk added a trip to Lower Panorama then a descent back to the cars via Davies Ridge

    Hi G*a*b*y,
Glad you enjoyed it. How is the drive in these days?

Definitely 4WD only. We hired a Mitsubishi Pajero and had no problems at all. The road is in good condition. It is just the various creek crossings that make it 4WD only. Also the water at the camp was very scarce. I wouldn't rely on there being water in the creek at all times. There were only a couple of small puddles and just a trickle of running water.
The track was very clear. It was surprisingly easy to follow.

Hi Shatkins, wondering if you’ve done this loop more recently since you posted in 2016? Would like to know what to expect after the saddle camp and traverse down to LPP? Thank you
