Itinerary description

Since this location is right around the corner from my front steps I figured I would try to give a bit more in depth information here.

The start point is located at the parking area. Right at the trail head you will notice a "No Swimming"/"No Trespassing" sign. This is a well traveled area the locals use, especially during hotter days of the summer.

This day the local PD was enforcing the No Swimming and asking that people stay out of the creek. Generally this does not happen, but be warned.

Walking from the trail head to the creek bed you will be greeted by the Canajoharie Pot Hole. This is a 24' wide hole in the creek bottom that varies in depth. If all the sediment were removed from it's bottom it would more than likely be over 15' deep, but as it sat today it was closer to 8'-10'.

Looking upstream you will notice a man-made dam. This is a natural barrier for the upper gorge and is well marked with No Trespassing signs.

I chose to walk downstream. Being so hot this week the water was low enough for me to make it almost to the lower falls without getting my feet wet. In wetter conditions the entire span of the creek can be a foot under water or more!

You can look down on the falls and you can even make your way to the bottom portion, but traveling much further is fruitless as it continues toward town, where some of the local houses and factory buildings line the creek.

**fyi - My GPS doesn't accurately depict my walking along the creek the entire time.
