Itinerary description

Lower Camel Ridge Loop
OVERVIEW:
This hike is for people that enjoy a good workout.  The challenge is to gain the crest of the Camel ridge by a very steep trail which is overgrown near the top. Views are limited.
TRAILHEAD:
Start hiking at the major culvert under the Libramiento at the west end of the El Dorado apartment building.
DESCRIPTION:
Head north up the Allan Lloyd Road which gets more and more rugged as it runs up a ravine between the Camel ridge and the Chula Vista Norte ridge to the east. Watch for a good but narrow trail heading west into the bush off the main road. If you come across a small clearing on the road with a hub of trails, you have gone too far north by a hundred meters or so. The correct trail steeply gains elevation as it heads directly up the side of the ravine and to the base of a major cliff. The last hundred meters  of elevation before gaining the ridge top is very steep and bushy with numerous deep holes from camote digging. Once on the main Camel ridge, find a faint trail heading south and down. Just persevere and stay on the crest of the ridge watching closely for signs of the trail. As the crest broadens, the best trail is somewhat on the east side of the crest. The trail quickly gets better and better. Eventually a private construction area is reached. It is important to keep away from it by staying far to the west on the crest of the ridge and slipping quietly out the barbwire gate onto a road. Follow the road south and back to the trail head. Congratulations!
