Itinerary description
It is a classic must-do route in Cappadocia especially if you stay in Goreme or Uchisar. It goes through the Love and Pigeon valleys of Göreme Historical National Park. You will see a rocky, water- and wind-eroded landscape with the rock-cut architecture of ancient underground settlements.
Route.
P-03 - P-10. Rose valley view.
You will start walking on a dirt road with a good view of Rose Valley on the right side.
P-10 - P-20. Love valley.
Love Valley (Aşıklar Vadisi) is known for its fairy chimneys/tent rocks. The trail is forking
P-26 - P-37. Pigeon valley.
Pigeon Valley is also famous for tent rocks and houses carved into the formations.
Difficulty.
The route is long (almost 15 km) but easy. There are no loose rocks, bouldering, scrambling, rope stuff, etc. I did it wearing ordinary city shoes with flat soles and jeans. Still, I recommend to wear at least trainers or better hiking shoes with a good grip.
Alternative.
1) you can do it in reverse
2) you can skip the Uçhisar Castle climb to reduce elevation gain and make it easier.
Time.
I finished it in 3h 40 mins. You can finish it much faster if you do trail running, but better to spend more time enjoying the landscape.
Parking.
I started the hike in the center of Göreme village. People park cars there in any available spot.
You can use the following location for reference 38.643495, 34.829355. It is a bus station.
Must-have gear:
1) trainers or better hiking shoes
2) 1.5 liter of water (the end of April)
3) Sun-protective clothing and sunscreen
4) headlight in case you finish late
