Itinerary description

!!! It happened that people get lost in the Paramo. If you are not well prepared or don't feel totaly fit to manage such a hike by yourself, hire a guide!!!

From Salento you can take a willy's jeep to Cocora (30 min). After 5 min walking up the vally you see a blue gate - this is the way you need to take. The path goes across many bridges and can be slippery.
After 1.5-2h you will arrive at the colibri house. Here you can have a meal for 10000 pesos. I would recommend to sleep here a night, good place to get used to the altitude (with tent: 15000 p.P, in a bed 25000 p.P). The ladys are lovely and the food is good. It is awesome to watch the hummingbirds flying around you.

The Next part is very steep. After 1h it goes for one more houre up and down to the "estrella de agua". You CAN NOT sleep here but refill your bottles.

Again it is getting steep for 3h more or less. You may take walking sticks or wooden sticks, while the path is very moddy now and won't get any better at the top (especially during rainy season).
When you leave the Forest you can enjoy the view on the awesome paramo scenery! It can get very foggy here and the weather changes fast. Even though it was no problem for us to find the path. I would take a phone with gps anyway! It takes 2-3h to get to primavera. Depending on the mud.

In primavera you can sleep for 15000 p.P and get food for 10000 pesos (basic but good). You cannot book here and it can happen that they are full (good to have a tent then ;) ) but there are many beds. When you have a sleeping bag take it - it is very cold at night!

They have a guide in the lodge you can hire for getting to the glacier (also equiment).

On your way back down you can go through the cocora vally with its palmtrees - highly recommended. After passing the colibri hous go over one wooden bridge and after ~1km right up the mountain. It is again very steep and after the hike down very hard. This walk will take 3h from the colibri house to cocora. After the top it goes down all the way to cocora.
Last willy it at around 18:30.

All informations are from 25.11.2016 - always ask bevor you leave for changes!

Not advised during rainy seasons. The path was completly shurned to mud by the pack horeses and cattles. Had to search were to put each step! Not enjoyable.
