Itinerary description
As this multi day trekking takes place in very remote areas, with no phone coverage, and with the possibility of not meeting anyone for days, to avoid problems and to warn those who download this gps tracks, I decided to classify each track as VERY DIFFICULT although in reality every single day is indeed different, and specifically there may be stretches which can be considered moderate.
DAY TWO ON LONSORAEFI TRAIL.
FROM GELDINGAFELL HUT TO EGILSSEL HUT.
THIS WAS THE MOST CHALLENGING ONE, DUE TO THE LENGHT AND TO THE ALTITUDE (MATCHED WITH NO GOOD WEATHER CONDITIONS WE ENCOUNTERED).
21,3 KM. 766MT UPHILL. 871MT DOWNHILL.
FULL PACKED BACKPACK.
AT THE BEGINNING YOU GAIN ALTITUDE REACHING 900MT.
THIS FIRST PART IS QUITE ANKLE BREAKING BECAUSE YOU WALK OFTEN ON PLATEAU COVERED IN BROKEN ROCKS. MANY WIDE SNOW PATCHES.
APPROACHING THE VESTURDALSJOKULL THE TRACK GOES DOWN A LITTLE AND YOU FIND GRASS AND MOSS, BUT THEN IT GAINS ALTITUDE AGAIN AND YOU FIND AGAIN DESOLATED ROCKS.
PAY ATTENTION TO RIVER CROSSING (Vesturdalsa): WHEN WE WADE IT, THERE WAS A LOT OF WATER (in some points of the wade the water was at inguinal level; i'm 1,76cm) AND IT WAS FAST FLOWING (SNOW BRIDGES OVER THE RIVER JUST ABOVE AND BELOW THE CROSSING POINT).
VERY GOOD HUT, SMALL BUT WELL FURNISHED.
