Longonot Mountain is a dormant stratovolcano located southeast of Lake Naivasha, in the rural area of the Great Rift Valley of Kenya, 60 km from Nairobi. Its geodetic activity during 2004-2006 demonstrated the presence of active magnetic systems still below.
In it there is a large caldera measuring 8 x 12 km formed by enormous eruptions of trachytic lava from 21,000 years ago, crowned by a 1.8 km crater and flanked by satellite cones.
On the descent we walked inside the crack, this division of the African plate would gradually generate two new parts, the Nubian to the west and the Ethiopian to the east.
We saw giraffes, buffalo and zebras along the way.
