Itinerary description
This hike will take you through some major scrub and palmettos areas, as well as some oak hammocks. A major part of the area was an old farm once upon a time, but you will see little left of it, except some cleared areas and old powerlines. The trail is well blazed with red triangles on posts. The trail is based on old roads, so it is pretty hard to get off the blazed trail. The day I hiked the trail it was partially chewed up to help prevent brush fires from crossing into different areas. It can be a little hard on the calves, but bearable. The trail passes some very picturesque ponds, so stop and take a look at those. The west border is the Econlockhatchee River, you should be able to find a way to view that if you so wish. I saw a lot of deer and some turkeys during my visit. Civilization in the form of houses are on the parts of the north and south sides, so be aware of that. One section of the south boundary is the Hal Scott Preserve, so you could venture down there if you would like too. Please, take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints!
