Itinerary description

Took a trip back to logans ridge taking a different initial approach after parking the vehicles at the last ford before Yellowpinch parking area. This spot didn't really place the party much closer to the ridgeline and I would recommend parking at Yellowpinch and just going cross-country immediately instead. The approach ridge utilised was also different to that used in my previous trips. This ridge sees much less traffic and although it has some nice perched boulders and slabs, this doesnt make up for the fact that it misses out the chockstone of Logans ridge proper. From a climbers perspective the chockstone is one of the best parts! From the first notch we took the original route right up the edge of the cliffline and I forgot that this route actually does have some big exposure near the top.

There was some confusion as to the best way to descend to the North Peak saddle and the route we took was very vegetated. A more slabby route appears to be attainable if you descend towards west peak further than the approach taken by this route. upon reaching the slabby section closer to the saddle the going gets much easier and an obvious route is apparent to the top of North Peak. The top of North ridge is more difficult to find. First ascend the smaller northern summit then into the cleft and up to the true summit of north peak. From here walk about 100 m north of the summit and you arrive at the top of north ridge.

This ridge is quite nice though is steep enough to make going quite slow on the descent. There is a section of slab about 200m down from the summit which presents some exposure and can be avoided on the northern side if necessary. A number of rocky obstacles are also present further down the ridgeline with all but one being able to be traversed directly. However, it may be easier to avoid them by contouring around to the south. One of these obstacles cannot be traversed in its entirety and the track avoiding to the south is marked by a cairn included as a way point on the track. upon reaching the bottom of the ridge it easy bushbashing back to Logans ridge and a decent path.

Just a quick note for first timers on north ridge descent. The reason to travel 100m down and north of North Ridge proper is because there is steep cliffs directly west of North Peak. You travel down and north of North Peak to locate a narrow gully that will give access to north ridge proper. There is a few other spots where you will venture off the ridge and down steep sections, well protected by root hand holds. Follow you nose the rest of the way. The only other section is right at the **bottom** of the ridge. If continuing down and west you will hit steep cliffs. When it looks like is is getting steep head back up and north 50m to find access down the cliff to the North. Skirt around the base of the cliff to cross Rocky Creek and to find the track to Logans Ridge. Hope this helps
