Itinerary description
14 september 2014 Lo Zingaro (score 7-).
Rothers mentions this walk as one of the best of the island. We found it quite monotone and not so nice. It has height but the nature is not as beautiful as our expectations. If you are looking for a beach, go. But not on Sunday because it's popular with the locals.
The walk though the nature reservation park starts with paying 5 euro per person (after we paid 5 euros for parking 200m before the free parking near the park). This and the fact that it should be one of the finest walks on the island raised our expectations skyheight. After the tunnel we turn left and climb the first hill on a bold slope with a lot of stones. Frankly the whole path to Borgo Cusenza shows the identical scene, hills with hardly any trees. We thought we were on east Crete. Then finally the turn. Now we descend towards the sea and walk back along the coast. Lots of beaches, boats and people diving. There is more variation in the vegetation when we approach the large Grotta dell'Uzzo. Now we enter the last bit of the walk. Up and down it goes back to the parks entrance. We pass now more and more people coming back from the beach (what can you expect on a Sunday?).
