Itinerary description
We found this walk originally on Wikiloc posted by user: Erna Lindhout
I decided to post the walk again with some more photos and also increased description because this was one of the best walks that we did in this area. The views are stunning and there was a lot of wildlife (seals and birds) that were much better than other areas we visited. We encountered one local on the walk who said that this was one of the best areas for seals - which is certainly was when we were there.
You park at Llanwnda - lots of grass and you just find somewhere to park - and then we headed east. The first part is simple, however, when you get to the dairy you turn north and head down the hill. This is very poorly signed and due to the cattle at the dairy there is no obvious path. The farmer was there in a tractor and helpfully pointed us to the path, which was somewhat east of the track on our GPS. He also warned us that it was "a bit wet" - with a dubious look at our footwear....
When you get to "boggy" it is indeed boggy. You need waterproof footwear - which we had, even though perhaps it didn't look that way to the farmer - and with a bit of care you can get though this area fairly easily. It probably depends on the amount of rain recently. Yes, this is Wales and it rains all the time - or at least it feels like it rains all the time.
You then get to the coastal trail and it is plain sailing from there. The track is single file, but very easy. There are some areas of steps, but nothing too difficult.
We had lunch overlooking the bay with the seals. We spent a very enjoyable time watching a group of seals squabble over the best spot on the rock in the sun. Just before the seals was a cliff covered in bird nests.
Follow the trail back to Llanwnda.
St. Gwyndafs is a old chuch that is in poor condition, it has a Welsh Bible in a display case. The building felt very sad - somewhat unusual for churches in this area.
