Itinerary description

Having seen the spectacular valley of Llangynog with its steep looming hills many times on the B4391 it has been an ambition to walk the valley for a long time.
Parking at the Llangynog free public car park by the two pubs, this route first takes you out of the village from LLangynog on the road along the side of Trwyn Y Gribin with great views across the valley on the left, where you can see competition mountain-biking taking place.
The route leaves the road to first zig-zag and then climb steadily through the woods along the side of the chain of hills on a clear path.
After a house and a couple of gates we climb further getting better views all the way and eventually leave the woods.
It is possible at this point to take your own route up to the top of the hills if time allows.
Where the official path descends and then ascends again around Hafod Fir I carried on following a sheep track which traces the contours of the hills remaining more or less level.
The area here can be quite marshy but with care and treading on tuffs of grass wet feet can be avoided, although I would recommend water proof boots.
Our route continues in a clock wise direction over moor like terrain until eventually descending to a very quaint foot bridge which is a good secluded place to stop by the river and take a break just over halfway. All the climbing has now been done and you can enjoy the very picturesque walk down the valley, where looking back you can spy the waterfalls in the distance.
After the about 2miles and crossing back across the river at a farm (The OS map shows the path going straight on but this is now blocked with growth, walls and fences) the path becomes tarmac back to the village. The pub is popular and serves food till 8pm on a Sunday.
