Itinerary description
A lovely walk from the picturesque village of Llangenith over Rhossili Down to the small village of Rhossilli, returning along the beach. Reaching Rhossili Down involves a steady, 150 metre climb over bracken covered moorland but you are rewarded by distant views across Broughton Burrows and Worms Head at the top. Beyond the viewpoint are the remains of a Second World War radar station which tracked shipping and low flying aircraft coming up the channel. After reaching a second summit, the path drops steeply into Rhossili where refreshments can be purchased at one of several cafes and restaurants. The Down is owned by the National Trust and there is a shop in the village where you can buy fudge, humorous cards etc.. A well constructed path now descends to the beach, and the route heads across it. If the tide is low enough the remains of an old ship can be seen. The final section is past Hillend Caravan park, then up the single track road back to Llangenith and refreshments at the charming Kings Head pub.
