Itinerary description
Awesome! That was a highly demanding hike in very deep snow. I avoided icy surfaces (although I did have crampons with me). There was plenty of snow right from the start (in Llanfairferchan) and all the way up to the summit of Drum. I took some photos but fingers became frozen quickly. On the way down to lake Anafon from Drum there was snow up to knee level. Nobody else had attempted to walk up to Foel Fras or down to the lake Anafon that day. On the way I saw amazing stalagmites on the rocks. After Llyn anafon a hiker could follow a well defined dirtroad. When I tried to cut corners by heading towards Foel Ganol I experienced several problems because of the bushes. I ended up at Foel Ddyarth before descending down to North Wales path. The day is too short in January for long hikes.
