Itinerary description
Franconia ridge loop
Loop in counter clockwise.
Best way to do it. This way if you start around 8:00am you can calculate to arrive around 11:30-12:00 at the top of Lafayette or plus 20-25min to the Greenleaf hut. Perfect for places to have lunch or picnic.
Beautiful hike.
Waterfalls, 360* views and an outstanding walk on the ridge.
One of my favorites hikes.
Highly recommended.
Although is not an easy hike.
For running hiker: count 6hrs to 6h30min.
For mid pace hikers: 7hrs to 7h30.
For slow pace hikers: 8hrs to 9hrs.

This is a very beautiful trail and it quite well marked. The trail is incredibly scenic and provides great views, on nice sunny days, of nearby mountain ranges. Choose to hike this anti-clockwise as this was mentioned in previous comments. This is a nice way to slowly wide your way until the top of Mt Layfette. This was completed on the 27th of August 2019.
I love this hike. I’ve done it many times and usually go counter-clockwise.

I would call this moderate to difficult. It was quite easy in my 20s. It's not easy anymore. I can go up easily, coming down is more difficult on my knees.
I agree with the OP - counter-clockwise is the better way to go: but it is steeper.
I would call it a moderate hike for someone who is an active hiker and difficult to those that hike once or twice a summer.
