Itinerary description
A gentle and attractive “coast and countryside” circular walk from the old pier at pretty Limekilns on the South Fife coast, overlooking the inner Forth Estuary. The focal point on the walk at the once busy, but now peaceful, harbour at Charlestown village, is the ruined remains of massive lime kilns, built into the cliffside. Duration: 2 hours.

We did this walk today but after the little bridge next to the MoF post, the trail was blocked and we had to go back. We couldn't find the way to do the loop.
Hi, Thanks for your feedback about the route being blocked.1) Can you confirm what the obstruction is, e.g. locked gate, fence, fallen tree? and, 2) Can you confirm that the obstruction is in the area after Waypoint 4 (from our PDF guide) and before Waypoint 5. Thanks a lot. Here is the guidance for those two waypoints:
Waypoint 4: Turn right after crossing the Lyne Burn. In 470 m from the end of West Harbour Road, you will arrive at a bridge over the Lyne Burn. On your left and above you is an old iron railway bridge. Cross the footbridge and immediately turn right away from the sea at Ironmill Bay. Now walk up the rough access road, with the security fence for the DM Crombie munitions base on your left side and the Lyne Burn initially on your right side. Soon you cross the Lyne Burn again to pass a house on your right side as you then gently ascend towards another house on your left at a sharp right-hand bend. (1.97 km)
Waypoint 5: In 230 m, Just before the house on your left, take the path into the trees on your left. This path descends and soon meets the bank of the Lyne Burn. Follow the path through the trees and past abandoned buildings, with the Lyne Burn always close on your left side. Soon after crossing over a large fallen tree trunk, and before a weir (and brick building), follow the path as it bends sharp right, then sharp left uphill, out of the wooded valley and away from the Lyne Burn. (2.2 km)
