Itinerary description

This used to be a popular hike but due to dis-repair after many storms and land slides, the hike to Monkey Beach is quite difficult. There is a good reason that it is officially closed. So we chose to do this hike an easier way. We hired a boat to take us straight to the beach (RM60) and then started the hike to the Lighthouse from the beach. The lighthouse hike was enjoyable and the trail was still in decent condition with only a few spots that were partially blocked. Once we returned to the beach we planned to hike back to the entrance of the park. You will see several pictures of damaged boardwalks and downed trees. One section was especially difficult because we had to climb and slippy and muddy hill to go around fallen trees. if it weren't for these issues, the trail would be very enjoyable. But even with all of these difficulties, we still passed many people choosing to make the trek into the beach on a Saturday morning. So you won't be alone. Overall, if you want to make this a much easier hike and debate-ably more enjoyable, pay for a round trip boat to the beach (RM100) and just hike to the Lighthouse. Note: the way-points and comments will only make sense if you do this hike in the same order we did which is starting at Monkey Beach.

Damaged boardwalk

There were several sections like this but this was the first we encountered and the worst. We had to climb over the railing and traverse the section from boulder to boulder before being able to get back on the path.

Up the hill

This was the hardest section of the hike. The hill was pretty muddy and there were not many good footholds.
