Itinerary description
The goal of the route is to arrive to the top base of the Tour d'Aï. The hike will be easier if you go first to the Lac d'Aï, then up to the base of Tour d'Aï and come back to Leysin by the Col du Tompey. However, I did Col du Tompey first as my knees prefer steeper uphills rather than steeper downhills. Also, you get to chill at various nice buvettes on the way down to Leysin - Feydey.
At the start, the hike goes through a forest and some wetlands where the path is quite narrow and partially covered by tall grass. It would be wise to wear long trousers and use hiking poles. From Col du Tompey to Tour d'Aï is quite a climb and the path is not always clear, keep your eyes on the top of the hill to avoid walking extra with such steep inclination.
The views are breathtaking the whole way, with an almost panoramic view nearby the rocky zenit of the Tour d'Aï.
Leysin-Feydey is reachable by train. Close to the station there is a nice small supermarket open on Sundays for last minute shopping. As mentioned above, it worthies to stop at the buvettes between Leysin and Lac d'Aï to enjoy some nice cheese, crème and local drinks.
Won't advise this hike for children aged <13 and hikers not used to steep hikes.
