Itinerary description
Parking on the side of the route between L'Étivaz and les Vuittes. Follow the yellow-marked trail to les Vuittes, turn left into white-red-white marked trail in the direction of Gros Jable. After rather long and steep ascent you'll arrive at Gros Jable. Turn right towards Col de Jable. Cross the pass, follow the trail around Gumm towards Trittlisattel. Once you start your ascent, watch for a signpost 'Bergwanderwege' - this is where you leave the trail and turn left into an unmarked but well-visible path taking you up towards Pointes de Sur Combe. After some 30 mins or so the path levels off a bit and turns in the direction of Gummfluh. Once you find yourself almost under the summit, the path will take you up through a pierrier and finally to a steep, rocky ascent secured by some cables and ropes to the shoulder. From there the final walk to the summit.
Return can be made more interesting by following the 'road' from Gros Jable to Petit Jable and then on to Plan au Lare and le Bovay. Final part of this trail is not very well marked - if you feel lost just, keep going down until you get out of the forest, then hug the tree line moving East. You'll get to the country road down to road to L'Étivaz.
Duration: 7h
Conditions: sunny with some clouds
Difficulty: T3, ascent to the summit on the more difficult end of the T3 spectrum
You don't want to do this trail in anything but dry conditions.
