Itinerary description
A slightly challenging hike due to the amount of uphill climbing, but a very rewarding feeling at the end!
This hike starts near Bacchus Marsh and has a deceptively easy flat start along the Lederderg River. There is then a 200-300 metre steep-ish ascent before settling in to a more moderate up and down amble through typical Lederderg bush along fire tracks and smaller trails for a decent few kilometres. Near the end you emerge from the bush to farmland and pass through a gate and over a stile a bit further up before embarking on the final uphill push. You don't get the whole way to the top of Mt Blackwood, which appears to be private property, but you reach a road where you can be picked up.
I don't think I'd recommend doing this hike after rain, as it could be quite slippery. It would be tough going on a hot day too.
But good exercise and a nice amount of uphill without it feeling impossible. Would be nice in spring with wildflowers.
Enjoy!
