Itinerary description
Not too difficult, beautiful walk with some serious climbing. Walked with my two adolescent daughters (who don’t really like to walk but went with us anyway), my husband and my (very experienced) dog.
The dog actually needs to be on a leash because of the fragile nature. So bring a harness and long leash with you or make sure your dog listens perfectly.
As I sayd: the walk is beautiful but very impressive also! I could not stop thinking about the 17,000 (!!) soldiers (9000 French and 8000 German) who died here in the beginning of WW1 (as in any war: stupid and useless).
On the way through the tranquil, bautifull landscape you will find many visible remains of a terrible battle. Trenches and machine gun nests are visible everywhere. You also find a German and a French cemetery in the middle of the woods. It is good to search some information on the internet before you start walking.
