Itinerary description
Layensteig Strimmiger-Berg
Summarised:
-An easy stroll through enchanting forest, including three streams: Bildbach, Morsdorfer Bach & Flaumbach
-Three Klettersteig sections: Burgberg, Schinnkaul and Höhenschlucht (all three can be avoided if you’re not into it)
-Several panoramic spots: Grosse Kanzel,..
Parking at the church in Mittelstrimmig:
50,09035° N, 7,28298° O
From the church: follow the signs to “Portal Mittelstrimmig”.
After 500 meters you find yourself at the start of the trail where you have to choose your direction.
I went counter-clockwise to keep the fun part, the three Klettersteig section for the end of the route.
The whole trail is perfectly marked with purple/white signs!
First part of the route goes initially over fields but mainly through a lovely forest where you’ll walk next to Bild Bach, a small stream and later the Morsdorfer Bach, a wider stream which guides you to the tiny hamlet Birkenwiese, just over halfway down the trail.
The second part starts initially next to Flaumbach, another stream, and then the fun starts, the first steig of the day: the Burgberg Klettersteig includes a ladder, some cable sections and two iron steps sections. If you’re not into klettersteig you can easily avoid it by staying on the wide forestroad.
Soon after the Schinnkaul Klettersteig including cables and iron steps.
Same here, you can walk around it!
Next: Grosse Kanzel, a big shelter hut and panorama spot and right after: Höhenschlucht Klettersteig including two ladders, some cable sections and some iron steps. Again you can avoid the steig by walking around it.
You finish the trail by continuing through the forest until you find yourself back in the fields.
Enjoy!
PS: (If you’re in the area: make sure you check out the Geierlay Hangbrucke, a 360 meter hanging bridge in the nearby town Morsdorf. You can find route info on my trails under Geierlay Hangeseilbrucke: https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/geierlay-hangeseilbrucke-114262309 )
