Itinerary description
Walk from car park back to the main road and go right approx 400 metres and take the narrow trail on the left through the undergrowth
The trail has not been walked on for some time and the first section is very overgrown and difficult to pass through at the time of this walk.
The trail starts high in Lastros rising gradually up and onto a exposed rocky section where a fleece is needed if the icy northern wind is blowing and water and headwear if it's a hot baking day. The trail once it gets to it's highest point of 646m descends down on fairly steep and loose stones where caution is required from easily tripping on the surface.
The trail passes by the village of Panagia where the trail meets a wide roadway, continue on this until you enter the old rock pathway that leads all the way down to Kavousi providing stunning views of the gorge.
Again on this section the weather has shifted several rock landslides and the rocks and shale have deposited themselves onto the pathway creating a bit of rock hopping on this section.
Waypoints
Go left off road and follow narrow trail through undergrowth
Go left off road and follow narrow trail through undergrowth This has not been walked for several years and as such was wildly overgrown
Climb up the waist height wall and follow trail along the top going left
Climb up the waist height wall and follow trail along the top going left
Climb over wall
Climb over the wall and keep right following the trail between the two walls. The undergrowth and spiky branches have overgrown badly here and will snag at clothing and rucksacks, but keep going through between the two walls, it feels as if your in a tunnel
climb up over several terraces
Exit the tunnel trail section and climb up several steep terraces, footing here is a bit slippery as the terraces are grass and few rocks to step up on Leads to a roadway after ascending some 20 metres higher
Slightly easier section to the right
Terraces have poor footholds this section to the right is easier to negotiate, leads up to roadway where you go left following it for a short distance
Follow roadway left
Go left looking for another trail that goes up on your right, easily missed as we did and had to double back. Approx 100 metres from this point
From roadway up pathway on your right
Follow this pathway, it's fairly easy to follow as a simple rock pathway which zig zags up through a few trees onto open ground up to the springs some 75 metres higher
keep going left on more defined trail that has plenty of markers

One of several gates to pass through
First of several gates on this walk. If you look down from this point you will see the small gorge where the spring passes, easily spotted by the greenery and trees growing. Follow this pathway going gradually up to the highest point of the trail for 1200 metres and 140 metres higher. The path is an easy although the most exposed route as you traverse over a stone trail with no shelter from the elements.#So a hot day, plenty of water and a cap # a cold day a fleece or body-warmer with a beanie.
another gate
another gate and the highest point of the walk. From here onwards it's mainly all down hill a drop of 510 metres with the occasional uphill section
Looking down on Panagia
View of the small village that you skirt pass. From here the path drops down fairly quickly, so watch your step. Plenty of red markers from here onwards
Lunch by the fallen tree
Lunch here for us. From here you can see the path that you have to follow down to the village
Continue
Go behind and to the right of the tree to follow the narrow single file pathway, a bit loose underfoot going down Another zig - zag route all the way down The pathway leads onto the top of a sone wall which winds around the outskirts of the village, between rocks and trees
another gate
Pass through a gate This one has a wire running across under head height, so remember to duck going through
View of the pathway that you will be taking
Keep on easy defined pathway, this takes you pass several white walled houses and onto a well defined roadway leading out of the village
Follow roadway
Follow this road a mixture of rough gravel and laid concrete out of the village for approx 1500 metre before leaving road onto old rock causeway down to Kavousi
Leave roadway here
Exit roadway, follow the small path and you will see it opens onto an easily and very scenic part of the walk. A very old causeway, still used to take the sheep down from the mountains to the village below. Easy to follow, fairly hard underfoot with the hard rocks. A few sections have suffered from rockfall along the way
View of the pathway that you will be taking
Pathway. Only another 1800metres to the end at Kavousi
Destination
View of Kavousi the ending point of the walk The old pathway finally leads down to the roadway leading into the village
Road leads to the main road
Road leads to the main road where hopefully your second car is parked to get back to the other car at the Taverna and make your way home
