Itinerary description
The trail begins from the O'Reilly's carpark, following the Box Forest and Toolona Creek circuits clockwise until rejoining the Border Track at Mt Wanungara's lookout. Continuing along the Border Track, Echo Point is visited in-and-out via the Albert Creek circuit as an aside for sunset.
All parts of the trail are very well defined, and reasonably well maintained. The gradient and terrain are both very forgiving, besides the distance, this is not a difficult walk by any stretch of the imagination. In retrospect, skipping the Box Forest circuit could have been skipped without missing much.
There were far too many waterfalls along the Box Forest and Toolona Creek circuits to warrant adding a waypoint for each. They are all obvious enough and many would make for a great place to swim during the summer months.
Following truely torrential weather, some of the creek crossings may be demanding.
Waypoints
Border Track Lookout
Reasonably overgrown, almost to the point one wouldn't call this a lookout.
Cominan Lookout
A nice lookout over the valley to the south-east. Echo Point makes for a better view.
Echo Point
A fabulous lookout into the valley below. We enjoyed sunset from here, though the sun itself cannot be seen beyond Mt Wupawn the view is still quite impressive.
Mount Wanungara Lookout
At the time this hike was recorded, the lookout was closed for regrowth, though the area can still be accessed.
Hollow Tree
A sizeable, hollow tree. Spacious enough for a pair of adults to stand inside. You can see the sky through the top of its trunk.
Toolona Lookout
Like many of the other lookouts along the Border Track, this one is reasonably obscured by vegetation.
