Itinerary description

This pleasant hike, through the woods above the Laketown Ranch festival site, offers some nice views of Cowichan Lake and its surrounding hills. The photos in this Wikiloc, captured on a cloudy winter’s day, do not show those views - you will have to trust me that they are there.

The hike route passes by some huge satellite dishes. Built in 1970, now decommissioned, these were part of the Telesat Communications System providing cross Canada television and radio transmission via satellite. It’s history is an interesting one, for more information see Wikipedia entries for “Telesat” or “Anik”.

The trail system may be closed to public use when festival events are on, typically on summer weekends. If it looks like an event is in progress, find an onsite Laketown Ranch representative and ask.
