Itinerary description
Typically day hiking or camping at Lake O'Hara in Yoho National Park involves getting lucky with reservations to get a seat on the bus shuttle or a camping spot. However, it is possible to still enjoy the wonderful lake and by just walking the 6.9 mi (11km) road.
Other than our road walk in, the views were nonstop on the Alpine Circuit. With our shifting perspectives, the view of Lake O’Hara was always new with a different mountain motif behind it.
After completing the alpine circuit. We were able to catch the bus on the way out as there typically is more availability and no reservations required.
In 2020, this report is more relevant as the bus shuttle is not running due to COVID at all. Meaning those camping at the the lake would have to make the hike in as well, perhaps making it more accessible for the local Canadians that can make it there.
