Super easy walk with family around Lake Martin on the levee trail. Muddy in places, but plenty wide to get around wet spots. Lots of poison ivy along edge of trail. Ran across a spur trail with old kiosks that looked usable, but didn't have time to check it out, plus had hunters in area warning sign. Didn't make it all the way around to the pumping station, as we ran out of time, but it is possible to make this a loop trail if you don't mind walking on the gravel road.

Not much wildlife, however in the spring and summer you will see more than you can count. Have kayaked this lake numerous times throughout the years and this view was a nice change

Went to visitor's center to ask about the spur trail, but it was closed. As it is run by volunteers there is always that chance. Bathrooms were closed as well.

I have followed this trail  View more

Bill the spur trail is more of a network of trails setup in a grid pattern. I guided a group of UL athletic students on a night hike thru the area about three or four years ago. Not much wildlife to see after dark besides armadillos. As a result I recommend this hike in the day time.

I'm glad to see you found the best part of the lake trail that being the peninsula trail out to the point.

Thanks for the information. Will have to explore the other trails for sure. I had no idea a peninsula was there, as I have never seen it from the lake. Guess I've never kayaked that close to that side of the lake.
