Itinerary description
Quite easy hike at the foot of volcano Hornopiren to a beautiful lake.
Hornopiren means “Snow Oven” in mapudugung, the native language of the indigenous.
The trail is shadowed so even with sun pleasant, but the first kilometers are not very exciting. Smooth ascending some parts with mud or water can be expected but can be circumfered. The forest is not virgin anymore, wood exploration and cattle have left their footprint.
The ascend is not steep so the trail is apt for anybody having some physical fitness. It takes about 2 hours to reach the lake. (We did it very fast, so plan to take longer.) Can be also done by horse.
You’ll need about 4 hours, without counting time to rest at the lake.
Car or any other transport needed to the start of the trail.
