Itinerary description
Close to Huaraz, self guided, short hike, moderately easy, nice views from the cordillera blanca, reaching a small lake with some birdlife.Half day hike close to Huaraz.
Take bus (colectivo) nr 10 southbound from the carretera principal (N3), stop at 'puente Santa Cruz' (about 20', 2 soles). Cross the bridge, hike up, on your left the trail starts where I started recording. If you're not yet acclimatized, you'll feel the altitude, otherwise it's an easy hike. When you reach the village, you're already half way. You should see signposts as well. Where I retraced 10 meters, there's a small store where I bought water. Maybe the lake itself is not as spectacular as some others around here (the glacial lagunas), but I really enjoyed the hike and the vistas, and relaxed.
