Itinerary description
The first hike we did since we arrived in Huaraz was the one to Wilcacocha lake (3710m). This is one of the best hikes if you need to acclimatize to the heights in Huaraz.
From Huaraz you take bus 10 or bus E to the start of the hike (use maps.me for the exact location). The bus will cost you 2 soles. From there on, you start walking uphill for about 1.45 hours. The hike is a bit steep and walks past some small villages. The route itself is not very spectaculair, however the views get more beautiful the more you hike up.
On top we took a break. The lake itself is not that much but we did enjoy the sun before we started our descent, which took us about 50 minutes. Make sure to use maps.me for the route if you dont want to walk over the main road (that was our mistake on the way back). The route stops at the starting point. Unfortunately, I forgot to turn off my wikilocks when catching the bus...
Overall a good first hike. Dont expect it to be as beautiful as all the other lakes around here. Just see it as a nice preperation for all the good stuff thats coming.
Good luck!
