I have followed this trail  View more

A wonderful way to enjoy the day.

While the elevation can be challenging for those that are not acclimated, it is an easy and well maintained trail around the lake and easy terrain to follow the river into the valley. We first did this trail during a visit to Cuenca and numerous times since living here. It is a good trail for visitors.

There are local tour services that do outings, but a guide is not necessary. It is quite a distance from the main road, so a taxi is the best choice if you do not have your own transportation. Our most recent taxi ride was $10/each way. We contracted with a driver suggested on a local expat newsletter to drop us off and pick us up 3-4 hours later. There are no services, so be sure to bring water. We have seen campers in the valley, but do not know the details.

    Go. Enjoy.
