Itinerary description

I really enjoyed the trail, it's not that well signposted to begin with but once you cross the river (by bridge) it's very easy to follow (we did not use a guide). I went in late November and the trail was very muddy until the snow line. The views were spectacular. We rented "crampons" which were made of chains with spikes on them and they made the hike significantly easier especially walking on the snow and ice. At the end point (the ice cave) we had to wait until a tour group had finished before entering. We did not use a rope to enter and exit the ice cave but I would only recommend not using one if you are fit and lean. If you'd like to take your own rope all you need is an ice screw and a carabiner, the rope would only have to be 20m max if you wanted to put some alpine hitches in to make it easier to climb. When we went the lake was frozen over but I would not recommend walking on it as you don't know how thick the ice is especially as this was as the season was warming up to summer. We followed the contour around the lake that was already well trodden by previous people. To get back just follow the same path
