Interesting route to visit the surroundings of the Lagoa das Furnas, to the east of the Island of Sao Miguel.
We leave the parking lot at one end of the lake and walk along a very easy path by the left bank of the lake. We pass by the Chapel of Nossa Senhora Das Vitórias, built by the intellectual and botanist, born in the Azores, Jose do Canto. We pass in front of the entrance to the Mata-Jardim José do Canto Park until we reach the building of the Monitoring and Research Center das Furnas. We continue along the easy path until we reach the Caldeiras area, springs of boiling water and fumaroles. In this area, local restaurants take advantage of the high temperature of the ground to make holes in the ground and cook the traditional dish "Cozido das Furnas).
Instead of continuing around the lake, which is a paved road, we take a path that leads to the town of Furnas, where we can visit the Terra Nostra Botanical Garden, the curious "inverted house" and an area of “caldeiras” at the exit of the town.
