Itinerary description
Not very well known but very picturesque easy to moderate trek to the amazing spot Leones Lake, where several glaciars drain in.
Access: the road to the start of the trail goes through private land. Only 4x4 recommendable.
The path is well marked by a foreign landowner and mostly well maintained. Some challenging parts are to cross small rivers on latters or woods, and a steeper part along the River. The rest is flat, mostly smooth underground.

It's important to remember that the lake and glacier Leones are located in the National park Laguna San Rafael, the entrance into national parks is regulated by Conaf, and this sector of the park is accessible only with concessionary tour operators. Also, there might be an error in the date when the hike was recorded: in January 2021 all national parks of the region were closed.
Thank you elena.leones for your comment. Actually the date is correct and at this route is no entrance of Conaf. It is just a private land and at the time we went there there was no control.
Hi Kati, it is indeed an entrance into the Laguna San Raphael national park, closed by Conaf, please see maps with limits of the park marked. The lake and the glacier Leones are definitely located in this park. And, indeed, the access does go through private properties, with no registered public servitudes of access. And, yes, we are the foreign landowners who put all the signs you mention in your route, and who are providing information to Conaf as to the passage of tourists to the sector Leones. Personally we never go to the lake Leones as it is a closed sector of the park. Also please see the website aspticket. cl to check which sectors of the Laguna San Raphael national park are open for visits.
And in January 2021 all access to all parks and reserves was closed as the region was in quarantine.
Hey everybody!
What's the actual situation in 2023?
Is there an oficial way to walk up to glacier and lake leones?
