This hike starts from the community of La Tinaja. Park in the large open area just up'hill from the pedestrian bridge over the river (Rio Blanco). Be aware, however, that this area is used by transit buses to turn around, so park near the edge of the area.
The hike is a loop starting with a long up-hill stretch to the top of Pena Blanca. Then across the plateau and down into the community of Pena Blanca. The church in Pena Blanca is a nice place for a break. Next you continue through the canyon to the Rio Blanco and follow the Rio Blanco river back to the starting point.
