Itinerary description

Parking on the side of the road to Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard right next to the country road leading to la Pierre. Join the trail marked yellow, cross la Dranse d'Entremont and continue North. At the sign post La Pierre take the trail marked white-red-white that will take you up through la Combe de Drône. In about 1 hr you will get to the trail crossing - turn right in the direction of Col du Bastillon. From there go down to Lacs de Fenêtre. Having passed the first lake you'll arrive at the trail crossing where you'll turn left in the direction of Pointe de Drône. The trail will take you to la Fenêtre d'en Haut where you'll turn left and start the ascent to Pointe de Drône. This section all the way through la Grande Chenalette and the first part of the descent to Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard is rather rocky and sometimes exposed but well-equipped with chains, steel cables and ladders. A good exercise but otherwise not complicated - you will need both hands but in good weather for the most part you won't need these devices. Having arrived at the Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard walk East past the buildings of the hospice, the parking and soon you'll see the white-red-white trail on the left taking you to Pas des Chevaux. Descend into la Combe de Drône. At the already familiar trail crossing turn right towards la Pierre.
Duration: 7h + pauses
Conditions: sunny with some clouds in the afternoon
Difficulty: T3
It is possible to make an easier variant of this loop by starting from Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard and skipping la Combe de Drône - that would cut about 2h and 400m elevation gain from the itinerary.
