Itinerary description
Around christmas period there's not a lot to see in San José and that's why I decided to spend a day trip in the La Paz Waterfall Gardens nature park. This park is a combination of a small zoo and some very lovely waterfalls at the end of the trail. I'm not a big fan of caged animals, even if these animals are so-called rescue animals. Nonetheless I must admit that it's pretty nice to see the several bird species, especially the humming birds. It's the first time that I'm seeming them in real live and they don't disappoint.
The entrance fee for the park was a pretty hefty $70, but that's including a buffer at one of the restaurants at the park. The buffet is pretty nice, but the total fee is quite high for what is essential a three hour stay in the park. At the end of the trail there are five waterfalls, the one more spectacular than the other. The sun was setting when I left the park and in sunset the waterfalls are quite spectacular. You need to have a bit of condition to navigate through the different steps, but you're rewarded with nice sceneries of the waterfalls.
In the end a bus will take you back to the entrance where your car or bus is parked. Overall, a nice park to visit, but personally I can do without the caged animals (especially the puma and jaguar who are staying in way too small cages) and the price tag is - like all parks in Costa Rica - quite high.
