Itinerary description

The route "La Mujer Muerta" is second of Sierra Guadarrama's classics after "La Cuerda Larga" (done week before). The route goes through highest peaks of west part of the range.

Details:
08:30 - parking next to casa cirilo (1400m). Route follows well visible path uphills, next to famous historic Calzada Romana, in the past connecting Madrid and Segovia. This part is a steep climbs through narrow forest path. No snow yet.

09:30 - puerto de la fuanfria (1792m). The forest ends here and route goes through stone/bush slope of the peak os Cerro Minguete to the summit. Still no snow on our way - not a sure thing at this time of the year.

10:00 - cerro minguete (2026m). First peak on the route. Views in all directions with Segovia, Funfria valley and all the route in front of us. In shadow areas we meet some frozen snow, but it does not make the hike impossible nor dangerous.

11:00 - la pinareja (2197m). The highest point of our route. Still we enjoy the views in all the directions. Snow areas are less here as this part has more sun.

11:40 pena del oso (2196m). Second of the high peaks on the route (just 1m difference :-P). We make a quick stop for snack and rest. Wind is strong and cold so the stop is really quick! From here we start the descent to puerto de Pasapan.

13:10 - puerto de pasapan (1846m). This is theoretical end of route as the original route is not a loop. We still have to go back to the car :-/ The route enters the forest again from here.

15:00 - collado de marichiva (1753m). After crossing the valley next to mountain lake with a dam, the route goes up again to the pass. This part of the route follows dirt forest roads with only the last climb by narrow path.

15:45 - back at the parking (1400m). Only descent from the pass through the narrow forest path - nice, easy and quick :-D

Weather at this time of the year was windy and cold, but no major snow difficulties (very few in shade areas on the peaks). Level moderate to difficult for the distance and cold.

    Vaya!

    Hi there!
sorry for replying in english but I dont speak spanish :-/

we did walk quite fast I have to admit. Only 20min stop on the peak.. Good tempo all the route.

I can also see You did Cabezas Hierro last weekend, while we did la Cuerda Larga from Puerto de Navacerrada to Miraflores. I guess we might pass each other at some point :-P

As of 26/06/2022, the trail above the Embalse del Tejo was closed (with a gate) starting at 40.78896N, 4.12357W (if I remember correctly, a nearby signpost said it is closed during the summer, until the end of September).
This lead me to make a large detour in order to pass about 4 km downstream of the Embalse, before going up again to collado de Cerromalejo, and finally down to las Dehesas. I saw only one person along the way.
With 33 km and about 1800 m elevation gain, it ended up being quite an epic loop! 8 hours moving for 10 hours total.
I still wouldn’t recommend closing the loop until the trail above the Embalse reopens. Until then, it might be wiser to stop at puerto de Pasapán and come back by following the ridge.
