More information about the route and about organizing and doing the Kumano Kodo in the blog

Second stage that ends at the central temple where all the Kumano Kodo roads end and where we can obtain the credential at the tourist office. This track ends at the bus stop just in front of the entrance to the temple and next to the tourist office.

The first part has 3 small peaks in which for hardness, the second one stands out that is right in the alternative part to the original road, which is about 4 kilometers marked as “detour” (that section of the original road has been closed since 2011 due to landslides) .

Without technical difficulty, but the route can be moderated with bad weather conditions. The entire route is perfectly signposted. 80-90% of the Kumano Kodo road is made inside the forest with towering trees as a “tunnel” that They give shade and rarely open viewpoints to the surroundings.

From Hongu Taisha we can approach Yunomine Onsen walking or by bus to enjoy the typical Japanese baths. We stayed at J-Hopper s Kumano Yunomine Onsen.

Place to take the bus to the Onsen area or other places on the peninsula. Or starting point to visit the tourism center and get the credential or the Hongu Thaisa temple. There is a typical sign of the Camino de Santiago that indicates the "small" distance to Santiago from here. And the commemorative plaque of twinning of roads in May 2014 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the proclamation of the Kumano Kodo as a World Heritage Site in 2004

Kumano Travel rates this route as 4 out of 5 in difficulty.

Many skip the first 2 hours of walking by getting dropped off at Doyugawa instead...not a bad option considering the views and lack of stamps between Tsugizakura and the entrance to the Detour.

Walking without a pack this is a nice tramp. Seeing the big Tori gate near the end of the trail was a bit of a gem.
