Kritsa Gorges 2018-06-10

Depuis Agios Nicolaos, prendre la route vers le village de Kritsa. Passer à coté du sanctuaire de Panagia Kera, pénétrer dans le village et suivre la direction de Lato. En sortie de village, juste après avoir traversé le petit torrent, prendre à gauche la piste en suivant l'indication "Gorge of Kritsa". Se garer au bout de 300m environ après les dernières habitations (quelques places à gauche ou à droite).
Driving from Agios Nicolaos, take the road to Kritsa. Pass by the church of Panagia Kera, enter the village and follow the direction of Lato. When leaving the village, just after crossing the creek, turn left on the trail following the sign "Gorge of Kritsa". Drive 300m and park after the last houses (some places on the left or right).

Pas de difficulté. Parcours facile dans les gorges. Ensuite, pistes et bon sentier.

No difficulty. Easy route in the gorges. Then, track and good trail.

Repérer le petit cabanon en parpaings sur la gauche avec les écriteaux jaunes dessus. Suivre la direction de la flèche rouge vers la gauche. Descendre dans le petit ravin, traverser le torrent, le plus souvent à sec à partir du mois de mai, et remonter le canyon en suivant le balisage rouge très abondant.
La remontée des gorges s'effectue sans problème en l'absence d'eau dans le torrent. Quelques rochers à enjamber et un passage équipé de poignées métalliques constituent les seules petites difficultés.
Après 1,6km environ, lorsque la gorge commence à s'élargir au niveau de ruines cachées dans la végétation, repérer sur la droite un bon sentier qui abandonne le fond du torrent et remonte en serpentant au milieu de la végétation.
Après 250m, on rencontre une piste venant de la gauche. Prendre sur la droite.
500m plus loin, nouvelle piste assez large venant de la gauche. Prendre sur la droite.
Après 250m, la piste tourne franchement sur la gauche. Continuer alors tout droit par un sentier muletier encadré de murets de pierres et qui se faufile au milieu des oliviers. Suivre ce sentier jusqu'au bout qui ramène sans problème jusqu'au parking de départ.
Et ne pas oublier, au passage, d'aller visiter le sanctuaire de Panagia Kera avec ses magnifiques fresques !

Locate the small shed in cement blocks on the left with the yellow signs on it. Follow the direction of the red arrow to the left. Go down the small ravine, cross the creek, and walk up the canyon following the numerous red marks.
The climb of the gorges is done without any problem in the absence of water in the torrent. A few rocks to straddle and a passage equipped with iron handles are the only small difficulties.
After about 1.6km, when the gorge begins to widen near some hidden ruins masked in the vegetation, find on the right a good path that leaves the bottom of the stream and winds up through the vegetation.
After 250m, there is a trail coming from the left. Take on the right.
500m further, new rather wide trail coming from the left. Take on the right.
After 250m, the trail turns frankly on the left. Continue straight forward on a mule track framed by low stone walls and sneaking through the olive trees. Follow this path until the end which brings back without any problem to the parking.
And do not forget, by the way, to visit the sanctuary of Panagia Kera with its magnificent frescoes!
